How to Care for Your Sex Toys

So you just invested in a high-end sex toy, now what? The connection you have with your sex toy is really something special. It’s never too busy or too tired to show you a good time. It wants only to please you. From the moment you met, you knew you fit together perfectly. To keep this relationship going strong, take proper care of your sex toy. As a Pure Romance consultant, I never want to get the call that something happened to your toy that could have been prevented. Proper care can help keep your new best friend around for a long time.

Clean your sex toy shortly after use.

I get it, the last thing we want to do after our little helper has transported us on an orgasmic journey is wash something. BUZZZZZ KILL. Literally. But the longer you wait to clean your bedroom accessory, the longer bacteria have to set in + infect your toy. How Rude! When you come back to Earth after reaching Planet O, the first thing you should do is wash your sex toy. Sorry to break it to ya.

Wash with a specialty cleaner.

C’mon girls! We wouldn’t use laundry detergent for shampoo, or dish soap to clean our clothes, so why use the wrong soap, or NO soap, to clean your toys!? Just because you use soap on your dishes or on your body does NOT mean you should use it on your sex toy! Skip the frills, colors, + fragrances because they can irritate your most intimate areas, and soap of any kind can cause your toys to dry out and crack- where bacteria likes to live! You can find cleaners that will keep both you + your toy safe from harm.

Never submerge a vibrator’s battery pack in water.

This might sound like a no-brainer, but if you soak the battery pack, the vibrator may not work the next time the mood strikes you. Rinsing in warm water + washing with the Pure Romance Toy Cleaner, works the best, then pat dry w/ a clean towel! Now, you’ve probably read here all about the *new* Seductive Spotlight collection – those items ARE submergible up to 3ft of water (hello, hot tub and bath friendly!) So just double and triple check that your toy is a bit more than just ‘waterproof’.

If you want more, properly store.

Store your sex toy in a clean, cool, dry place. Ever leave a tube of lipstick in the car on a hot summer afternoon? Pretty much the same thing can happen to your sex toy. Heat can turn it into a gooey mess.

Fun Fact… Direct exposure to sunlight and heat can discolor, corrode or even melt your toy. Be sure your special sex-toy spot is free from dust and moisture to keep it (and you) happy for months + months to come.

Another tip… It might sound a bit extreme, but go ahead + remove the batteries before storing. Some batteries tend to leak, which could damage or destroy bedroom toys.

LASTLY… Store your sex toys separately!!!

I CANNOT stress this enough. Silicone on silicone is bad, and it is something I ALWAYS make sure my girls know. I repeat and repeat this. When two silicone toys rub against each other, they tend to eat away at each other’s material, and not only does that make for a really ugly looking toy, but it can cause microscopic tears in the toy and become a breeding ground for bacteria. When sex toys get together, weird things can happen. They can share bacteria, break down or even melt together. Keep them separate, and wrap each in its own clean, dry toy tote.

Your relationship with your high-end sex toy is like any other relationship in your life: A little care will go a long way in keeping it fresh. Love your sex toy, and it will love you back! A little TLC can go a long way, and in Pure Romance, we like to think TLC stands for Tote, Lubricant, Cleaner. Need help deciding which is the best lubricant for you?
